Permanent Full-Time Chef and Assistant Housekeeper for a Family in Chelsea, London. Start ASAP.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Chef/ Assistant Housekeeper to support a busy family of four in Chelsea.

The family are British/Swiss with two children. They have a busy lifestyle living and working in London and travelling internationally during the school holidays. The children are aged 6 and 10 and the family have a friendly Cockapoo. The household is energetic, lively, and informal.

The ideal candidate will take pride in maintaining high culinary standards, while providing delicious, nutritious meals, using fresh high-quality ingredients. You will be responsible for planning, preparing, and cooking meals for the family, guests, and wider household team. In addition to your culinary duties, you should be flexible and willing to assist with household tasks as needed.

The typical working hours will be 11:00 – 20:00, Monday to Friday. Key responsibilities include producing healthy family meals daily, preparing weekend meals in advance, catering for occasional dinner parties, with the adaptability to help around the house as needed. A valid driver’s licence is essential, and holiday travel will rarely be required. Additional specifics are listed below.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Kitchen Management:

  • Oversee and manage the kitchen and dining area
  • Shop for fresh, high-quality ingredients from trusted sources and existing trade suppliers
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and tidy kitchen at all times
  • Ensure a high level of organisation and clear labelling within the kitchen
  • Clean and maintain all kitchen appliances to ensure optimal functionality
  • Manage kitchen appliances, coordinating with the Family Assistant when repairs are needed
  • Conduct regular stock checks and ensure all food items are within their use by date
  • Maintain cleanliness of refrigerators, discarding outdated or spoiled items
  • Ensure proper storage of raw and processed food items in refrigerators and freezers
  • Organise and ensure proper storage of all dry ingredients and supplies
  • Preform periodic deep cleaning of the kitchen to maintain high hygiene standards
  • Handle and maintain knives and other sharp objects safely throughout work activities

Culinary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a variety of cuisines, with focus on healthy, Mediterranean and Asian dishes
  • Plan weekly menus in consultation with the parents and adapting when necessary
  • Use organic, high-quality ingredients and incorporate seasonal produce to ensure freshness and variety
  • Monitor and minimise food waste wherever possible
  • Demonstrate a strong passion for cooking and bring creativity to varied, well-balanced meal planning
  • Be fully aware of allergies and intolerances of all the children, family, and guests
  • Prepare, serve, and clear away lunch and dinner daily
  • Prepare meals in advance of weekends or during periods of annual leave
  • Provide healthy snacks and light bites throughout the day
  • Bake fresh bread regularly for the household and freezer
  • Engage in occasional cooking and baking activities with the children, following appropriate safety practices
  • Occasionally prepare and serve meals for small, informal dinner parties

Assistant Housekeeper Responsibilities:

  • Provide general support to the Housekeeper (working hours: Monday – Friday, 06:30-15:30) and be willing to assist with day-to-day household tasks as required
  • Assist with light housekeeping duties such as occasional laundry and putting away clean clothes and linens, primarily during the Housekeeper’s absence or annual leave
  • Run household errands, including picking up or returning dry cleaning, collecting parcels or shopping for essentials
  • Receive deliveries and manage returns or exchanges when needed
  • Support family routines when parents are unavailable/ during busy periods and evening, which may include supervising homework and assisting with bedtime routines
  • Maintain a proactive, flexible, and helpful approach to ensure the smooth running of the household

The family are looking for a professional, discreet and energetic Chef with experience in both culinary and household management. The ideal candidate will have a positive, can-do attitude, with a strong passion for creating nutritious and delicious meals. You will be proactive, resourceful, and able to anticipate the needs of the household, whilst always maintaining a high level of discretion.

Experience, Skills & Characteristics:

  • Several years of experience in a similar-sized private household
  • A positive, trustworthy and responsible attitude
  • Proactive and forward-looking approach with the ability to anticipate needs
  • Discretion and loyalty
  • A collaborative team player with a flexible attitude
  • Strong work ethic and good time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills and good command of the English language
  • Trained in Health and Safety and Food Hygiene standards
  • Non-smoker (essential)
  • Valid driver’s licence (essential)
