The Cafe Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation, service and customer experience of a very high-end in-house cafe, with fresh food cooked onsite by their team of chefs.

You will you be responsible for managing and servicing this operation with a small Cafe service team. The Cafe is open Monday to Friday serving breakfast, lunch and all-day items to all their in-house clients. The Cafe Manager will focus on creating a very high-level cafe experience for the client.

The Cafe is one component of a high-level catering and events company based within a very high-level client in central London. As a result you will need to have a high level of customer care standards, customer service ethics and strong operational skills to promote the smooth running of the café.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the cafe and serve customers alongside your team
  • Build and nurture relationships with customers to build loyalty and improve our overall brand
  • Ensure that you and your team have a clear understanding of the final preparation, presentation, portion size and heating time (if required) of all menu items
  • To ensure all food is correctly labelled with the allergens and dietary requirements
  • Ensure that you and your team have a full understanding of allergens and dietary requirements of each day’s menu. Make sure you have this information behind the counter and easily accessible in order to be able communicate accurately to customers
  • Manage stocktake of all compostables, napkins and food items like jams, juices and yoghurts and relay information to either Chefs (Perishables) and Business Development Manager (Compostables and Napkins)
  • Manage the collection of all items from the kitchen and build a positive and collaborative working relationship with the team of Chefs
  • Ensure that all items on the menu are present and correct before breakfast and lunch service; check quantity and quality and to keep up-to-date stock records of these
  • Maintain updated daily, weekly and monthly operations checklists and Health and Safety records – opening and closing checks etc
  • To close out the till every day after service
  • Maintain an immaculate working environment both BOH and FOH
  • To liaise directly with the chefs and Business Development Manager with any negative or positive feedback and respond accordingly as directed by the Business Development Manager
  • To have a weekly meeting with Business Development Manager and Chefs to discuss: customer service and experience; demand and supply; what can be improved upon etc
  • Ensure you and your team are compliant with the dress code and are very well presented at all times
  • Ensure that you are your staff are not using mobile phones during work time, apart from using What’s App Group to communicate with Chefs if more menu items are needed
  • Bins labelled correctly and all products go in the correct bins in accordance with sustainability project
  • Ensure the working environment is left in a clean and tidy manner when the cafe is closed for service

Who you are:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years food service operation supervision experience
  • Franchise or contractor experience desirable
  • Perfect for a Team Leader/Supervisor looking for their first move into a managerial role
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred or equivalent professional experience
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong passion for great food and hospitality
  • General culinary knowledge of basic kitchen practices, protocols and procedures
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work well under pressure, as the cafe can be very busy, particularly during lunch service
  • Demonstrates good judgement and decision making skills
  • Maintain a positive attitude under pressure and manage your team to do so
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team and alongside different teams within our operation (Kitchen, Coffee Bars)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Strong and positive customer service facing work ethic
  • Good presentation of items served

Overview:

  • 40 hours over a five day week (Monday to Friday, 7am until 3pm) No weekends.
  • Training and Development courses to continually learn on the job
  • Possibility to do paid overtime if wanted
  • 20 days holiday + 8 Bank Holidays

  • Salary £30,000 – £33,000 per annum depending on level of experience and expertise.
